DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward Public Library author series for Pride month\, National Indigenous People’s Day and Canadian Multiculturalism Day \nWe’re thrilled that Carianne Leung will join us at the Bloomfield Branch Library on Tuesday\, June 16 at 7 p.m.  \nShe’ll be in conversation with Kathryn Kuitenbrower\, best-selling author of the novels Wait Softly Brother\, All the Broken Things\, Perfecting\, and The Nettle Spinner.   Her work has been nominated for the Scotiabank Giller Prize\, the Toronto Book Award\, Canada Reads\, the ReLit Prize\, the Amazon First Novel Award and the Trillium Award and has won a Danuta Gleed Award and a Sidney Prize (US). Kathryn has taught and mentored creative writing students at Colorado College\, the University of Toronto\, the University of Guelph\, Brock University and the Royal Military College. She holds a PhD from the University of Toronto\, where her focus was creative openness in the eighteenth-century British novel as it formed into a genre. The Wandering Albatross book shop will be present at the event with copies of the book for sale. \nThanks to the Huff Family Fund through the County Foundation and the County for making this author series for Pride Month\, National Indigenous People’s Day and Canadian Multiculturalism day possible.

DESCRIPTION:Authors Derek Aronhie:nens Montour and Elin Sandberg Miller discuss their book Everyday Reconciliation with Jane Macdonald. \nTogether\, two friends with vastly different backgrounds share their vision for a reconciled country—one in which small\, daily actions can make a monumental difference Derek Aronhie:nens Montour is an Indigenous man who grew up on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Territory. Elin Sandberg Miller is a non-Indigenous woman and immigrant to Canada. Here\, they share their alternating experiences and perspectives with nuance and vulnerability\, providing an accessible and candid discussion that invites readers to consider the power of reconciliation in their everyday lives. The result is a clear and insightful guide for non-Indigenous Canadians who want to contribute to the national reconciliation process but don’t know where to start. Through thirteen wide-ranging essays\, Montour and Miller imagine what reconciliation would look like on a practical level\, driven by people\, not governments. Together\, they tackle an urgent and compelling range of subjects\, including asking tough questions about home\, land\, culture\, language and more. Can non-Indigenous people wear beaded earrings? Should they give their land back? What about land acknowledgements? Is it okay to attend a powwow? The resulting answers are thoughtful\, encouraging and considered\, providing non-Indigenous people with the practical tools to enact essential and meaningful change. This an empowering call to action—and one that equips all of us to become a part of our own everyday reconciliation.

DESCRIPTION:Opening Through Art with Melissa Brant \n\n Opening Through Art with Melissa Brant 10 AM – 12 PM followed by:\n Art in Conversation Student Response Exhibit remains open until 4pm\n\n\n A Path Forward – Macaulay Heritage Park: 23 Church Street\, Picton\n\nJoin us at A Path Forward for a special National Indigenous Peoples Day event featuring Melissa Brant\, multidisciplinary artist and proud member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (@shes_high_on_vibes) \n\nMelissa will be onsite to share the inspiration\, teachings\, and creative process behind A Moment of Reflection – the powerful walkway mural that welcomes visitors into the A Path Forward exhibit experience.\n\n\nAs the first artwork encountered in the exhibit\, the mural is a visual representation of the Ohén:ton Karihwatéhkwen\, a Rotinonhsyón:ni/Haudenosaunee practice often translated as “the words that come before all else.” Through intentional colour\, symbolism\, and movement through space\, Melissa’s work invites visitors to pause\, reflect\, and prepare themselves before entering the exhibit.\n\n\nThis is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artist\, learn about the teachings that inspired her work\, and experience the pathway in a deeper and more meaningful way.\n\n\nRefreshments will be provided\, featuring beverages from Mohawk Soda and Kebonish.\n@mohawksoda\n@kebaonish\n\n\nFollowing the artist talk\, visitors are invited to spend time exploring the gallery space\, including the main A Path Forward exhibit as well as the special student response exhibit featuring artwork created by local Grade 9 students inspired by the exhibit and its themes.\n\n\n\nAll are welcome!
