SUMMARY:Bay+Back | October / Kenténha
DESCRIPTION:– the intention –\n Go outside Embrace the season Wander and wonder with your neighbours Notice and reflect on the land\n\n– the invitation –\nLooking to get outside more? Join this 1.5hr(ish) monthly wander to wonder about the species and ecologies that follow Marsh Creek between Glenwood Cemetery and Picton Bay. It’s a chance to observe seasonal changes\, meet your neighbours\, ask questions\, get to know the landscape and the many plants and animals that use it\, and contribute to collective mapping and community science.\n\nEveryone is welcome. There is no fee to participate.\n\n– the offer –\n\nA semi-guided group nature walk along Marsh Creek with various introductions to plants\, animals\, fungi and more! We’ll weave through Delhi Park to observe what’s on the grow\, which cute dogs are at the park\, and take mental notes as well as iNaturalist recordings of various species.\n\nWe’ll supply any reflection materials and tea.\n\n– the ask –\n\nThat you bring your whole self\, your curiosity\, your willingness to embrace the season and a sense of play! You listen fully to others\, tread lightly\, and ask lots of questions – especially the ones that feel ‘stupid’.\n\nYou arrive dressed for the weather\, and bring a cup or mug for tea. We go rain or shine.\n\n– the details –\n\nWe’ll start from the entrance gate of Glenwood Cemetery near the blank/black information panel. You can park along the street or in the cemetery for free. Becky will be walking back to the starting location\, but folks are also welcome to depart from parts of the park along the way.\nThe walk is approximately 2km in total on roads\, grass\, gravel and dirt paths with several opportunities to traverse steep and uneven surfaces – if you’re interested and able. Looking for additional support in order to fully participate? Please let us know how we can help in advance by emailing feralfolc@gmail.com.\n\nIf you’re late or lost you can text Becky at 613-503-1309 and are welcome to try to come find us or meet us somewhere along the way.

SUMMARY:Fall PEC Repair Cafe
DESCRIPTION:You asked for it: PEC Repair Café is back this fall at @peclibrary on November 7th 🔨 \n– the intention – \n🚮 Reduce waste by repairing and re-using your things\n🛠️ Share skills and learn new ones through mutual aid\n👯‍♂️ Meet your neighbours and community\n⛅️ Get out to enjoy your local library \n– the invitation – \nSimilar to our annual Spring event\, this smaller Fall version helps prevent common household items from ending up in the trash/landfill by bringing them to the PEC Repair Café! It’s an opportunity to have your item(s) repaired for FREE* by rad community volunteers who believe in a shared responsibility of care and maintenance for the items we own and use. \nMeet skilled community members who will help you diagnose your repair and take the necessary steps to complete** it with you. We are focusing on offering repairs for items in these categories: \n👚 fabrics/clothing\n📺 electronics\n💡 household items\n🔪 sharpening\n🔌 small appliances\n🪑 small furniture / wooden items\n🚲 bicycles \nRepair Cafés happen all over the world – learn more about the initiative here: https://www.repaircafe.org/en/ \nIn order to best share resources among all visitors to the Repair Café\, please be mindful to bring up to 5️⃣ items for repair. \n*We encourage those who can to bring a donation to the Library’s Community Pantry (food\, personal care items\, or pet food) or a cash donation to the @loyalist_humane_society in exchange for support at the Repair Café. A donation jar and box will be on-site. \n**Although many common repairs are possible to achieve at the Repair Café\, it’s not always possible to fully fix all items as it depends on the skills\, materials\, and time available for each unique repair. \n– the resources – \nBring your item(s) for repair with all their broken parts/pieces and clean if possible. If you have the materials you believe you need to fix or replace the issue\, but don’t have the skills to do so\, please bring them also! We will have some spare parts and general fixing materials on-hand. \nThe Repair Café is free to attend. \nBONUS: Our pals in the Clean Air Community are hosting a clothing swap in the library on the same day! You can find them on the main floor in the active play room where you can drop-off or take-home clothing and small household items. There is no requirement to bring items in order to participate\, but if you are dropping off items please ensure they’re clean and in good-condition. Drop-off starts as of 11am and the swap runs Noon-4pm. This is a masks-required event! Please bring and wear your N-95 mask\, or use one that will be made available at the door. \n– the details – \nThe Repair Café will be set up in the basement/flex space at the Picton @peclibrary. The space is accessible from the side door of the library\, then by taking the stairs or elevator down one level. A volunteer will greet you downstairs and provide information about registration and all the options for repair support! \nAs this is an indoor event\, masks are welcomed and encouraged for community well-being. If you require a little-to-no contact repair be made due to health reasons\, please email us at feralfolc@gmail.com to make arrangements. \nAnyone is welcome to drop-in during open hours with an item for repair\, enjoy a complimentary drink and snack and/or just check out what’s happening and possibly lend your repair skills. For those who’d prefer to schedule an appointment for their specific item(s) you can do so by emailing feralfolc@gmail.com. \nNote the new time: 10am-2pm! We’re starting and ending an hour earlier than our usual spring hours. \nIf you have a question about the Repair Café or want to help out as a volunteer\, you can email Becky at feralfolc@gmail.com \nThe PEC Repair Café is made possible by rad volunteers\, our partners at The Prince Edward County Libraries and supported by The Elderberry Foundation through @thecountyfoundation – thank you!! 💜
