It’s not true!\n\nGive a little love back to the community where you live and share the responsibility of caring for the land by picking up trash with your neighbours.\nPitch-In Picton is a monthly\, one-hour\, mini trash-bash meets nature walk meets local history tour. From April to October\, Feral Folc and the Picton BIA are committed to wandering the mean streets of Picton in a search for trash and other community clean-up opportunities.\n\nEveryone is welcome! There is no fee to participate and no need to register in advance.\n\nThe Offer\nThanks to the Picton BIA\, all garbage and recycling bags\, gloves\, hand-sanitizer\, bag tags\, and snacks are supplied. We will ensure that all the waste collected is properly disposed of.\n\nBonus: receive a local gift certificate in exchange for your participation!\n\nThe Ask\nBeing open to meeting and working collaboratively with new people\, asking questions\, practicing respect for the land and each other.\n\nDress yourself to be outdoors rain or shine and safely pick up garbage – you may wish to bring your own supplies\, wagon\, or pick up sticks.\nShow up\, even if you feel unsure.\n\nThe Details\nMeet Mark & Becky outside the Picton Library at 6 pm on Thursday\, July 23. We’ll go together to the designated street(s)/location(s) for pick-up – for July we’ll focus on the back alleys\, side street and green spaces between Main Street and Delhi Park!\n\nWe will cover 1-2km of distance\, mostly on sidewalks\, in alleys and parking lots but can sometimes include parks and other uneven surfaces. Options for those with reduced mobility are available – for those looking for support in fully participating please let us know how we can help in advance by emailing feralfolc@gmail.com\n\nIf weather conditions make it unsafe to Pitch-In we will postpone to the following Thursday\, and update over our social media channels at least an hour before the event. DESCRIPTION:The Department of Illumination presents the 14th annual \nFIRELIGHT LANTERN FESTIVAL  \nFriday November 6 & Saturday November 7\, 2026 \nThe Crystal Palace\, 375 Main St. E.\, Picton \n  \nThe Department of Illumination is ready to light up the night with The Firelight Lantern Festival\, a cherished Prince Edward County tradition since 2013. Two magical evenings of arts and music will unfold at the Crystal Palace in Picton\, Ontario\, November 6 and 7\, 2026. Tickets go on sale to the general public October 17. \nDance the night away at the art party of the year! Friday November 6 is a 19+ evening featuring Grievous Angels. Renowned for their electrifying live shows everywhere from square-dance halls to biker bars\, they’ve earned two JUNO nominations for songs that capture the tragic beauty of life in Canada’s Northern Shield. The night heats up with an illuminated performance from North Fire Circus\, and as always the artists of The Department of Illumination will have crafted an array of wild art installations responding to this year’s theme\, ‘STORYBOOK’. \nSaturday November 7 sees the return of the magical Lantern Parade\, kicking off an all-ages evening starting in Picton’s Benson Park. Gather at 6 PM for a pre-show performance from The Aurora Borealis Community Choir; mingle with neighbours and take in the giant puppets and handmade lanterns. The parade departs at 7 PM sharp\, accompanied by Spencer Evans and the Goat Steppers. The parade will make its way down Main Street to the Crystal Palace for a second night of artistic revelry for the whole family. There will be an outdoor fire show from North Fire Circus at 7:40\, and local music powerhouse\, Cue the Funk\, take the stage at 8:15. Cue the Funk is a 9-piece funk\, disco\, soul band bringing the best\, good-time-ready\, dance-all-night grooves! \nRevelers are invited to dress up in whatever wild and wonderful costume they wish – especially if it’s illuminated! Both evenings are licensed inside the Crystal Palace\, and Kaleidoscope Catering is putting together an incredible creative menu. The Department of Illumination invites community members of all ages to play an active role in the lantern festival by coming to one of six lantern-making workshops taking place between October 17 and November 1. These will be held in The DOI studio in the lower level of The Armoury in Picton\, 206 Main Street. Attendees are provided with all the materials and instructions needed to make a lantern for $15 per lantern (+ tax)\, which they can bring to the festival\, carry in the parade\, and hang in the on-site lantern gallery. There are lantern kits for sale for those who want to create theirs at home\, and handmade lanterns will be for sale at Kelly’s Shop the week before the festival. \nTICKETS on sale: \n\nTues Oct. 14: Department of Illumination Members Only\n\n\nSat. It’s an opportunity to have your item(s) repaired for FREE* by rad community volunteers who believe in a shared responsibility of care and maintenance for the items we own and use. \nMeet skilled community members who will help you diagnose your repair and take the necessary steps to complete** it with you. If you have the materials you believe you need to fix or replace the issue\, but don’t have the skills to do so\, please bring them also! We will have some spare parts and general fixing materials on-hand. \nThe Repair Café is free to attend. \nBONUS: Our pals in the Clean Air Community are hosting a clothing swap in the library on the same day! You can find them on the main floor in the active play room where you can drop-off or take-home clothing and small household items. There is no requirement to bring items in order to participate\, but if you are dropping off items please ensure they’re clean and in good-condition. Drop-off starts as of 11am and the swap runs Noon-4pm. This is a masks-required event! Please bring and wear your N-95 mask\, or use one that will be made available at the door. \n– the details – \nThe Repair Café will be set up in the basement/flex space at the Picton @peclibrary. The space is accessible from the side door of the library\, then by taking the stairs or elevator down one level. I was toying with the idea of putting an all-acoustic band together on the heels of my exit from Lowest of the Low. But the songs had other ideas\, and instead I formed the Stephen Stanley Band that went on to make 2 records\, Jimmy & the Moon and Before the Collapse of the Hive\, that band then played hundreds of live shows. But I guess I don’t like to sit still. And after booking a show in Adolphustown in 2025\, the promoter asked me to consider making the night an unplugged affair… and I immediately knew what must be done. I have been fortunate to play with so many gifted and accomplished musicians over the years\, and this band is certainly no exception. Jason Mercer (upright bass\, banjo)\, Michael O’Grady (accordion\, tin whistle)\, and Chris Bennett (guitars) are all exceptional\, intuitive musicians. NoElectric started as a vehicle to reinterpret my entire catalogue of songs\, and quickly became a home for a lot of new music. We are taking it all on the road in early November 2026\, which will likely lead to our first studio record. Picton has been my home for the past two years. I am loving every day here—the friends\, the land and the water. So\, playing The Andrew is going to be a complete and absolute treat. I love a show that I can walk to. We hope to see you on November 8th. \n Jennifer Foster\nToronto singer-songwriter Jennifer Foster brings her brand new album Powerline to The Andrew\, in support of Stephen Stanley and NoElectric. Praised by Ron Sexsmith as “a wonderful collection of songs\,” Powerline is an acoustic-driven folk-pop record inspired in part by the New Brunswick farm where she grew up\, with songs about place\, memory\, love and loss that are both meaningful and musically surprising. The luminaries will remain lit throughout the night until morning. \nIn the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day\, visitors are invited to dedicate a Luminary in honour or memory of someone who served. Dedications can recognize a family member\, ancestor\, friend or another individual\, living or deceased. Luminaries are available for a minimum contribution of $5 in the Exhibition Hall\, with proceeds donated to the Royal Canadian Legion in Picton\, Wellington and Consecon.
