Looking for a way to engage with National Day for Truth & Reconciliation? Join this 1.5hr(ish) meetup at Macauley Museum and Heritage Park – which has special hours on September 30th – to learn alongside others about how museums are engaging with Reconciliation. Visit the award-winning exhibition “A Path Forward,” hear from featured Tyendinaga-based multidisciplinary artist, Allison Lynn, regarding her new installation “Seven Star Dancers,” and then reflect outdoors with your neighbours while bearing witness to the seasonal changes around us.
Everyone is welcome. There is no fee to participate.

A supportive group learning/unlearning experience by attending Allisons meet and greet, exploring the “A Path Forward” exhibit, hearing from Macaulay Museum staff, and then taking it all in together out on the land. We’ll supply the warm tea.
We’re excited to collaborate with Madeline Smolarz – local DEIA advocate, proud queer, chronic condition warrior, and former Canadian Museums Association President – to lead this gathering! She will introduce us to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action 67, share her experience with museums and Reconciliation, and support our post-exhibit visit reflection.

That you bring your whole self, your curiosity, and your kindness. You listen fully and respectfully to others and share honestly. You tread lightly, and lean in to any grief and/or joy that arises.
Come dressed for the weather, a cup to share in some tea we’ll provide, and perhaps something to sit on (chair or mat). This offering is rain or shine.
Admission to the museum is free; cash donations toward the exhibit or the Downie Wenjack Fund are gratefully appreciated.

We’ll start by meeting at 11:45am at the Macauley Heritage Park and Museum parking lot at the intersection of York & Church Street, Picton – you can park here for free.
After Madeline provides some context on museums and Reconciliation, we’ll go to the Macauley Museum about 100m from the parking lot to head inside and join the 12:00pm artist talk with Allison, then wander around the main exhibition. Around 12:45pm, we’ll head outside to reflect on what we saw, heard, felt, thought, and/or learned for about a half hour.
Surfaces can include dirt/gravel parking lot, grass, sidewalk, and interior flooring. Washrooms are available within the museum. Looking for additional support in order to fully participate? Please let us know how we can help in advance by emailing feralfolc@gmail.com.
