Kind of Groove

As part of the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival, The Grange of Prince Edward Winery’s free Vineyard-Side Music Series welcomes Kind of Groove. “Kind of Groove” is a high-energy ensemble built around deep pocket, feel, and musical chemistry. Featuring Blair Yarranton (trumpet & effects), Martin Traynor (guitar & voice), Phil Woodard (bass), and Gary Buffett (bass), the group dives into groove-driven music that blurs the line between jazz, funk, and soul. Inspired by the electric-era explorations of icons like Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, and Miles Davis—while weaving in reimagined grooves and textures drawn from artists like Bill Withers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and The Temptations—Kind of Groove delivers a sound that is anything but traditional. This isn’t a sit-and-listen jazz act; it’s a dynamic, feel-good jam band that locks into infectious rhythms and invites audiences to move, connect, and ride the groove.
