Tenant Rights and Organizing

Tenant Rights and Organizing

The Macaulay Village Neighbourhood Group, in partnership with Prince Edward Learning Centre (PELC), Community Advocacy & Legal Centre (CALC), the municipality and local housing advocates, is launching a series of free Tenant Rights & Organizing workshops this June to support renters, strengthen neighbourhood connections, and help residents better understand their rights.

The workshops will provide practical information about tenant protections, housing challenges, local supports, and collective organizing strategies while creating welcoming spaces for residents to connect and support one another.

The same workshop will be offered on three different dates and times to support varying schedules:

  • Wednesday, June 10
    10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
    Picton Library – Flex Space
  • Thursday, June 11
    5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
    Prince Edward Learning Centre
  • Saturday, June 13
    12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
    Prince Edward Learning Centre

Sessions will include “know your rights” education and discussion on tenant organizing, featuring perspectives from PEC by-law representatives, a housing worker, and the Community Advocacy & Legal Centre (CALC). Community organizer Christine Renaud will also support discussions on organizing strategies and building tenant power through collective action.

The workshops come at a time when many residents across Prince Edward County are experiencing increasing housing insecurity, affordability pressures, renovictions, and uncertainty related to redevelopment and displacement.

All workshops are free and open to everyone. No registration is required.
